Our Friars in Formation
Our friars in formation continue their discernemnt at our St. Francis Friary in Washington, DC -- also known as "Capuchin College," a name which has 'stuck' through the generations, even though the friars study at Catholic University or other schools in the metro area.
Their stories are accounts of God's action in their lives - an action which will appear much like the human stories they are. God was at work, drawing them from various various walks of life and with various talents and interests, to become part of our Capuchin brotherhood.
A Mannequin Novitiate?
Our novice brother, Edgar Pereira, OFM Cap., let us know that the novices completed a Mannequin Challenge video. Phil Bernier, OFM Cap., now a staff member of the novitiate friary in Santa Ynez, CA, told us that Edgar was an important contributor to getting the video made and uploaded to the web.
For those who are clueless about what exactly a "Mannequin Challenge" is (like me), I resorted to Google for help: "A Mannequin Challenge is a viral video craze featuring people imitating mannequins and freezing for the camera while music plays in the background. Many people are sharing videos using the hashtag #MannequinChallenge." So now we know! Here's the video:
Postulants on the Road to Graymoor
At the beginning of November, the Postulants and Staff joined the Franciscan communities of the Mid-Atlantic region for an Inter-Franciscan gathering which included men and women from the various branches of the family. The workshop is an opportunity candidates and others who are in initial formation to come together, share their experiences and receive input on our common Franciscan heritage.
This year's event took place in Graymoor, NY, home of the Atonement Franciscans. Br. Kip Ledger, OFM Cap. (second from left), our Postulancy formation minister, led our 6 postulants to the event.
DC Franciscans join for Transitus '16
The DC area Transitus Celebration was held at the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land Commissariat on Quincy Street in northeast Washington. The Transitus is an annual Franciscan remembrance of the evening in October 3, 1226, when our Father St. Francis of Assisi made his "transitus" ("pass over") from death into new life. The feast of our patron is celebrated on October 4 as the sunset determined the 'new day' in the medieval world.
Our brother Steve Wright, OFM Cap., appears to have encountered an unexpected visitor below.
