Br. Diogo's a Deacon
This month witnessed ordinations of Capuchin friars from all of our jurisdictions in the US, Puerto Rico and Papua New Guine. Our brother Diogo Escudero, OFM Cap., (pictured above, fourth from the right) was ordained a deacon in Washington, DC, on Saturday, January 5th. At the celebrative dinner after the Ordination, Diogo thanks his family, friends and friars for their support:
PNG Celebrates Two Ordinations
Saturday, January 19, saw the ordination of two of our friars in Papua New Guinea, Patrick Herok, OFM Cap., and Alfred ("Freddy") Turok, OFM Cap. in Madang, PNG. The ordaining prelate, Capuchin Archbishop Steve Reichart, OFM Cap., sent along a couple of scenes from the day. Patrick and Freddy are seen here on either side of him at the Ordination Mass.
Below, on the left, is Patrick -- he's from Manus/Karkar, and Freddy, to the right of him, is from Monumbo near Bogia, the original mission foundation of the SVD missionaries during the German Administration in the late 1800s.
On the right above are three visitors from the mountains, Srs. Vero, Roslyn and Agnes, all Franciscan Sisters of Mary (FSM), the 5th largest Religious institute for women in the Catholic Church, with 5,474 members serving in 74 countries. The sisters are located in the Diocese of Mendi and journeyed to Madang to join the festivities -- both of the friars ordained are of the Madang Province.
Puerto Rico has a New Deacon
Meanwhile, in Puerto Rico, our brother bishop Don Lippert was on hand on the island to do the honors at the Diaconate Ordination of Roberto Colón Ortiz.
