Three of our Capuchin friars were ordained to serve as transitional deacons in a Mass celebrated on January 3, 2017, at St. Augustine Church in Pittsburgh, PA. The three friars now join three other friar-deacons in their goal to serve the Church as Capuchin friar priests.
In the left photo, friars Roshan Anthonypillai, OFM Cap., Phil White, OFM Cap. and Reynaldo FrÃas-Santana, OFM Cap., are in the front row, while our three other friar deacons, Al Carver, OFM Cap., James Watson, OFM Cap. and Jonathan Ulrick, OFM Cap., stand behind them in this photo taken after the completion of the Mass.
Pittsburgh Diocesan Bishop David Zubik was on hand to confer the Sacrament of Orders on the candidates through the laying on of hands, commissioning them to be genuine proclaimers of the Gospel in their lives in service to the women and men of the Christ's Church community. Provincial Minister Tom Betz, OFM Cap., commented with gratitude on the edifying number of friars and family present for the occasion.
In remarks after the reception of Communion, Fr. Tom proudly reminded the assembly that now six deacons are living and serving in the Province. Brs. Roshan, Philip and Reynaldo will be receiving their assignments in the coming weeks and months. Please join us in praying for them!
